During her PhD studies, Teodora Dorca-Preda worked with life cycle assessment (LCA), a complete method for carrying out environmental assessments. The Ph.D. project aimed at consolidating environmental sustainability assessments of livestock systems by incorporating a wide range of environmental impacts, including climate change, eutrophication, toxicity-related impacts, and land use related impacts on soil quality. An LCA framework for assessing toxicity-related impacts was defined for livestock systems based on the case of Danish pork, including both pesticides and antibiotics.

The Ph.D. research provided a comprehensive assessment of the environmental profile of Danish pork. Furthermore, the assessment of a broad range of impact categories made it possible to identify environmental trade-offs regarding the implementation of different management practices.

The PhD study was completed at Department of Agroecology, Faculty of Technical Sciences, Aarhus University.
