Travel information

Covid regulations by May 2022: At this time there are no restrictions regarding Covid19.

Please check Covid travel restrictions and requirements for entering Switzerland. If you are traveling from outside of the Schengen area, please use this travel check to make sure that you can enter Switzerland.

All rooms at Monte Verità are fully booked. Please contact Hotel Luna and La Perla for rooms. They are available at a discounted rate to workshop participants. A shuttle will be arranged for pick-up and drop-off at the beginning and end of each day’s events.

Travel Information

EuroBlight Workshop will be held at the Monte Verità conference center in Ascona, Switzerland.

Travel to Switzerland

We suggest flying into the following airports (shown with approximate travel time to Locarno). More information, including other airport options, can be found on the CSF homepage (travel). In particular, we suggest flying into Zurich and Basel so that you will not have to cross country borders in case covid-19 restrictions should differ between Switzerland and Italy.

  • Zurich International Airport (ZRH) – 2 hrs 30 min. (with change in Zurich main station and Bellinzona every other hour. The other hours you have an extra change in Arth-Goldau or take a slower train directly to Locarno with a bit more than 1 hr extra travel time).

  • Basel, EuroAirport (BSL) – 3 hrs, 40 min (you can take bus 50 to the Basel train station and then change trains in Bellinzona every other hour. The other hours you have an extra change in Arth-Goldau or can take slower train directly to Locarno with a bit more than 1 hr extra travel time).

  • Milan Malpensa, Italy (MXP) – 2 hrs, 20 min (there is now a train from the airport and then you must change in Lugano. You will cross IT/CH border).

  • Milan Linate, Italy (LIN) – 2 hrs, 30 min. to 3 hrs (bus(es) to Milano Centrale station, followed by train. You will cross IT/CH border).

Travel to Locarno

Locarno is the closest railway station to Ascona, and you can check the time schedule on the Swiss Railroad (SBB) website.

The trains from Zurich arrive at the following times in the afternoon: 13:14/44, 14:14, 15:14/44, 16:14, 17:14/44, 18:14, 19:14/44 and from Milano Malpensa always on 35. Check on the SBB website for trip details, including platform information and necessary transfers (https://www.sbb.ch/en ).

Locarno to Monte Verità

There will be a shuttle minibus for the transfer from Locarno to Monte Verità with stops at Hotel Luna and Hotel la Perla in Ascona on May 9th. The shuttles will depart from the Locarno station at the times below. Public bus information to Monte Verità is also included.

The minibus stop is close to where the public buses stop. Look for the white bus with the Monte Verità logo. (pictures below).

For participants staying at Hotels Luna and La Perla in Ascona, there is regular public bus service to Ascona (Bus 1) leaving every 15 minutes. The stop for both hotels is Ascona, Parco dei Poeti.

Taxis are also available from Locarno station to Monte Verità for 30-35 CHF, 15 min. Eco taxis provides the most affordable service and must be pre-booked. Phone +41 91 792 21 01 or 0800 321 321

Ascona to Monte Verità

For participants staying at hotels in Ascona, there will a daily shuttle to Monte Verità and one to return. The walk is approximately 25 min. (stairs uphill 120m to Monte Verità).

Going home

At the conclusion of the conference on May 12th, the shuttle bus will be available from approximately 13:00 until 17:00 from Monte Verità to Locarno station. For the train timetable, please check https://www.sbb.ch/en. Post workshop tour

We are organizing guided tours at the Botanical Garden of the Brissago Islands on May 12th after the final session of the workshop. There will be packed lunches for workshop attendees on the 12th and then we will walk or take buses to Ascona for the 13:45 boat trip to the island. There will be a guided tour of the botanical garden from 14:00-15:00. Return boat trips back to Ascona Centro are available after the tour at the following times: 15:20 -> 15:35; 15:30 -> 15.45; 15:55 -> 16:15.
