Venue, accomodation and logistics

Directly on the Sound, less than an hour from the Heart of Copenhagen or 20 minutes by ferry from Helsingborg in Sweden you will find the Hotel Marienlyst

From a major part of the hotel - and naturally from the big terrace and lawn - there is an unimpeded view of the Swedish coastline, Kronborg Castle and Helsingør marina - a beautiful and breathtaking view at any time of the year.

Beach Hotel since 1861

Beach Hotel Marienlyst was named after Frederik V's wife, Queen Juliane Marie (1729-1796), who built a wonderful French style castle just behind today’s hotel.

The hotel also attracted both King Christian IX (1818-1906) and his brother Prince Hans, who stayed every summer in the hotel's upscale room no. 15. The Russian Czar Alexander III had lunch with all his entourage including his Danish-born wife, Princess Dagmar, here, and the Prince of Wales enjoyed his dinner in the restaurant. Crown Prince Frederik, later King Frederik VIII (1843-1912), gave the hotel privileges to fly the royal Splitflag, use the royal crown in its logo and operate a gambling casino and thus, Casino Marienlyst became the first casino in Denmark.

How to get there

As the major hub in Northern Europe, Copenhagen can be easily reached by air, in most cases non-stop from the major cities in Europe, and from many cities around the world. It is also easily reached by road, and new road and railway bridges connect the island to mainland Europe, and to Sweden. Excellent fast train services connect most major European cities to Copenhagen.

Helsingør is situated 45 km north of Copenhagen. Direct trains to Helsingør run every 20 minutes from the station below Copenhagen International Airport and from the central railway station. Taxis are available round the clock. Car rental is available through all major rental companies.

By air and train

From station under Terminal 3 in Copenhagen airport (generally platform 2), or from the main central station, take a train to Helsingør station. Trains leave approximately every 20 minutes. The last train leaves from the airport at 23:26, arriving in Helsingør at 0:33.

From Helsingør station, you can walk (10-15 minutes), take a taxi (about DKK 75), take the local train or a bus. The local train leaves Helsingør station (your ticket from the airport is valid) at 5 and 45 minutes past the hour. The platform for the local train is just outside Helsingør station on the left as the train arrives. Get off at the third stop (the stops are Havnepladsen, Grønnehave, Marienlyst), which is about 100 m from Marienlyst Hotel. Busses numbers 803 and 340, stopping next to the local train station, also go past the hotel.

Rail timetables from the airport to Helsingør can be found here. Assuming that you are travelling from Copenhagen airport to Helsingør, enter 'Copenhagen airport' in the 'From' box and 'Helsingør' in the 'To' box.

By Car

Take the E47N motorway north from Copenhagen towards Helsingør until it ends. Stay on the main road at the end of the motorway in the same direction. Continue through Helsingør in the same direction through two roundabouts and past McDonalds restaurant. The road goes downhill and then turns sharply to the left at the traffic lights. There is a road sign pointing to the Casino and Marienlyst Slot. You are now passing Helsingør Town centre. At the third traffic light, turn left towards the Casino and Marienlyst Slot. Continue along this road, even though there are a few bends. A few hundred metres further, immediately after Marienlyst Slot on the left, you will cross a railway line. At this point there is the entrance to Marienlyst Hotel on the right.
