Historical agroecology - assessing historical land use and agricultural systems to understand present challenges and solution for agroecology

Main subject area: Changes in agri-food systems, historical geography, historical agroecology, food studies, rural studies, landscape changes; GIS

Short project description

Denmark has for centuries utilised much of the land for production of food, fiber and feed. In this project, the aim is to use different historical agricultural, land use and geographical data (agricultural censuses on parish level, historical maps, orthophotos etc.), to (1) map past historical agroecological landscapes, and (2) analyse pre-industrial farming systems in the perspective of agroecology. Methods for the project could include GIS, systems analysis, statistics, large dataset analysis, archival research, and document analysis.
