Program
13:00 - 13:05 | Welcome by Head of Department, Professor Jørgen E. Olesen |
13:05 - 13:25 | “From Hand Hoes to Digital Hoes” by Professor Bo Melander "Non-chemical solutions for weed control in agricultural and horticultural crops are becoming increasingly important, because legislation and policy makers ask for them, and because growers demand them. Especially, mechanical weed control in row crops has undergone an amazing development strongly supported by digital technologies. Biological investigations have added im-portant information to the technical innovations along the way to ensure ef-fectiveness and agronomic relevance; examples of this will be shown. Finally, new non-chemical technologies are presented which may have potential for future weed control programmes." |
13:25 - 13:40 | Q&A |
13:40 - 14:00 | “Seed Crops and Seed Technology” by Professor Birte Boelt Producing high seed yields of premium quality is a prerequisite for the seed growers and seed companies. As a result of collaboration between growers, advisors and research, the Danish production of grasses, clover and vegeta-ble seeds has developed very positively. In both conventional and organic production systems cultivation techniques have been optimised to provide higher yields of high-quality seeds. The presentation will give highlights of how research has contributed to this and generated new knowledge to opti-mise the growth and performance of seed crops. The presentation will ad-dress the challenges ahead, and it will discuss the needs and ideas for further innovation and development of new technologies which may enable us to “produce more with less”. |
14:00 - 14:15 | Q&A |
14:15 - 15:30 | Reception |
