Field visit and expert dialogue on biomass for biogas in Foulum
How can biomass be utilised more efficiently in biogas production – and how can research, agriculture, and industry collaborate more effectively? These were some of the key questions discussed during a recent field day at AU Viborg in Foulum, where researchers, farmers, and biogas producers came together for an exchange of knowledge and ideas.
The event was held as part of the Danish–Swedish project AccelAgroBiogas, which aims to promote the sustainable use of biomass and strengthen cross-border collaboration within the Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak region.
The day began with a field tour, where participants were introduced to current field trials with cover crops and their potential for biogas. The group then visited Aarhus University's biorefinery, where researchers are working on full biomass utilisation – for both energy and new green products.
The programme continued at Agro Business Park, where stakeholders from Denmark and Sweden discussed practical possibilities for testing new biomass concepts – for instance, in collaboration with local farmers and biogas plants in Skive Municipality. The conversation also touched upon regulatory frameworks and subsidy systems, and how they shape on-the-ground decisions.
The goal of the day was to share knowledge and build connections across research and practice – and across borders and sectors.
About the project:
AccelAgroBiogas is funded by Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak and involves partners from Denmark and Sweden, including Aarhus University, Högskolan i Halmstad, Skive Municipality, Fjordland, and a number of companies and biogas facilities.
