Who is Foulumgård?

At Foulumgård, the department has facilities and technical capabilities to support a wide range of experimental activities, including biomass production for energy and biorefining, the cultivation of catch crops, soil tillage trials, measurement of nutrient leaching, manure experiments, crop production on low-lying soils, and forage cultivation.

The site also features semi-field facilities with container-based trial systems, lysimeter installations, and basin facilities, as well as greenhouses and climate chambers.

Specifications

At Foulumgård near AU Viborg, the Department of Agroecology manages 90 hectares of soil classified as JB4 (fine sandy loam). Approximately 70 hectares are used for conventional field trials, while the remaining 20 hectares are dedicated to organic experiments. In addition, the department leases five hectares of sandy soil (JB1) to enable irrigation trials on this soil type.

Of the total field area, around 60 hectares can be irrigated through permanent underground piping systems.
